Worry over cow itch bother for Blackman and Gollop

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Blackman and Gollop Primary School fears the cow itch-related issues that affected the school last year could flare up again and disrupt classes.

Yesterday, president of the PTA, Lester King, told the Sunday Sun that he was concerned that children and staff would complain of itchy skin soon and wanted the environmental problem addressed urgently.

“Look, you can see all them down in here and in a matter of weeks they going to burst,” he said, holding one of the cow itch vines. “Every February this school has to be closed because of this thing and the same may happen this year. Will these children have to suffer again? It is not fair.”

King said he reached out to the person in charge of the land on several occasions. He said that workers were piling up bush infested with cow itch last week, but the entire area had not been cleared. (SB)
