‘Terrible’ Tuesdays

EVERY TUESDAY for the past three weeks, say residents, masked men have been spraying New Orleans, The City, with gunfire.

And three people, two of whom do not live in the area, have been victims of their stray bullets.

Ackyl White, 24, of Grazettes, St Michael, said he was shot in the leg on January 8, while taking home food for his aunt.

“I was coming from Chefette Fontabelle, and as soon as I pass the block, men just open up fire and I get hit,” he said. “I am lucky to be alive.”

On Tuesday, Leejay Walker, 21, of 8th Avenue, New Orleans, and Henderson Hewitt, 52, of Brittons Hill, St Michael, were hit when gunshots broke out around 8:05 p.m.

Hewitt, who was discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital around 1 a.m. yesterday, was back on his bicycle in the afternoon. He told the NATION he was visiting relatives just before the incident occurred. (SB)
