Minister of Home Affairs Edmund Hinkson has been relieved of some of his duties.
A press release tonight from the Barbados Government Information Service stated that Hinkson will no longer have responsibility for the Royal Barbados Police Force.
In addition, Hinkson, who was appointed to that ministry when Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced her new Cabinet after a Barbados Labour Party win at the polls on May 24, will also no longer be responsible for the Preservation of Public Order, the Forensic Services Centre, the Criminal Justice Research Unit and the Police Complaints Authority.
These duties will now fall under the Attorney General, Dale Marshall.
According to the release, these changes are effective immediately.Â
There has been mounting pressure this week on Government and Hinkson, as well as criticism from the public in light of the number of shootings reported for the year so far.
For the year, there have been 11 shootings, which resulted in three deaths.
