The Green Gladiators fought valiantly to ensure they were at the forefront when the curtains came down on West Terrace Primary School’s Inter-House Athletic Championships yesterday at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
Following the Red Dragons seven-year reign, their fire finally burnt out for Green to have their chance to stand on the highest point of the podium when they seized the title with 647.5 points.
Trailing by 108.5 points was Red, who were forced to settle for second, ahead of the Blue Bolts with 508 and Purple with 417.5.
Eight-year-old Franklin Durant was the star of the track when he made his mark after sweeping the Under-9 boys’ 80 metres 12.27 seconds, 100 in 15.54 and 150 metres in 23.36 to gain 30 points. In the long jump, he also took gold with a leap of 3.42 metres.
In the same division, no one could hold Abbeyosa Alexander, who dominated the girls’ competition when she copped the 80 in 12.86, 100 in 16.01 and 150 in a time of 25.55. Alexander also won the long jump with a leap of 2.85 metres. (RG)
