Council cannot relate to idioms

FORMER WEST INDIES fast bowler Ian Bishop is right when he says that the banning of fast bowler Shannon Gabriel for four matches is harsh.

The strongest defence, however, has been overlooked.

Growing up in the West Indian society, it is within the normal culture for a boy to say to another: “Why are you smiling at me? Do you like boys?” This is an everyday playground parlance that is shrugged off, laughed off or ignored.

That we should allow ourselves to be “beaten into shape” and shamed for “nothing”, by an International Cricket Council [official] who does not and cannot relate to West Indian idioms, is telling me that some among us, our representatives, are still kowtowing. – ANDREW BYNOE
