Windies set tough target for England

BRIDGETOWN – West Indies, powered by a 24th century from veteran opener Chris Gayle made an imposing 360 for eight in their 50 overs against England in the first Colonial Medical Insurance One-Day International at Kensington Oval here Wednesday.

The 39-year-old Gayle hammered 12 sixes and three fours in his knock of 135 off 129 balls as the West Indies posted the highest ever total in a One-Day match at the venue.

Shai Hope contributed a run-a-ball 64, laced with seven fours and a six while Darren Bravo smashed four sixes and two fours in a quick-fire 40 off 30 balls. Towards the end, Ashley Nurse hit three sixes and a four in an unbeaten 25 off just eight balls. Shimron Hetmyer also made a breezy 20 off 15 balls.

All-rounder Ben Stokes and leg-spinner Adil Rashid took three wickets each for 37 and 74 runs respectively while seamer Chris Woakes captured two for 59. (EZS)
