A sixth-wicket partnership of 83 between Jonathan Carter and Tevyn Walcott halted a Barbados Pride slide and allowed them to post a competitive total on the first day of their eighth round West Indies Championship match yesterday at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex

in St Vincent.

Carter and Walcott, the two heroes in the Pride’s come-from-behind win against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force in the previous series, came together with the Bajans struggling on 59 for five but their efforts helped them to post 215.

Wicketkeeper Walcott topscored with 66, while Carter weighed in with 42.

At stumps, the Volcanoes responded with 51 for two as left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican grabbed both wickets including the key scalp of Devon Smith. (HG)
