Third victory for Blue

Victrix ludorum Jovanna Gustave copped 119 points and powered Ifill House (Blue) to their third successive victory at Daryll Jordan’s Inter-House Athletics Championships at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex yesterday.

Her contribution ensured her house was once again at the forefront of the pack resulting in them sealing the victory with a massive 2 069 points.

No other house matched Ifill on the day as secondplaced Corbin finished a distant 628 points behind with 1 441.

Jordan (Yellow) followed with 1 389 and Ward (Green) 1 339.

Following his early claiming of the long jump at the school where he also took silver in the high jump, he placed second in the 200 and 400 metres.

Ellis was also good for bronze in the 60 and 100 metres.

Corbin secured the victor ludorum title through Shalon Grimes. The Under-17 Boys’ Division saw him gaining 88 points following wins in the 60 metres, 100 metres and high jump events.

Grimes placed second in the 800 metres and third in the 1 500, long jump and javelin.

They also gained the Under-13 Boys’ title through Kemario Cox following gold medal performances in the 200, 400, 800 metres and long jump event.

Jordan’s sole top title went to Reanna Cummins in the Under-15 Girls’ Division after she made her mark in the distance events with wins in the 800, 1 500 and 3 000. She took silver in the 100 metres and long jump and third in the high jump and shot put. Though Ward wasn’t on the podium, they celebrated the successes of Under-13 Girls’ champion Shobianna Bhickram and Under-15 boy Devere King, who tallied 93 and 84 points, respectively. Bhickram won the 60, 100, 200 and 800 metres, the long jump, was second in the 400 and third in the 1 500 metres. King took the 100, 200, 3 000 metres, along with the long jump. He finished with silver in the 400 and bronze in the 800 metres.

Competing in the Under-20 Girls’ Division, Gustave secured seven convincing victories, showcasing her versatility on track and on the field.

She won the 60, 100, 400, high jump, shot put and discus.

The 18-year-old also placed second in the javelin.

Kayla Yearwood-Francois also made an impression for Ifill by securing the Under-17 Girls’ title with 70 points after sweeping the 60, 100, 200 and 3 000 metres. She gained silver in the 1 500 metres.

Completing Ifill’s triple in top titles for the day was Ishaem Ellis, who won one individual event but gained 67 points overall.
