FOR ANOTHER YEAR, the girls and women of the Girl Guides Association marched proudly in the streets.
It was the annual Thinking Day parade and church service on Sunday, and this year members marched from the National Stadium to Abundant Life Assembly in Bank Hall, St Michael. This year is the 100th anniversary of the organisation, and the refrain “100 years long, Girl Guides strong” reverberated in the church.
Pastor Kevin Hunte spoke on the theme of the day, Leadership.
“A leader is in charge and all the blame or credit goes to the leader. A leader has to be able to stand up and be accountable, even if the circumstances are not directly their fault,” he said.
He told the Blossoms, Brownies and Girl Guides, as well as their parents and families, that there was a leader in every one as “the talents, abilities and gifts God has given each of us, we have the ability within us to use them to influence others”.
Hunte also gave three virtues he said were necessary to be a good leader: wisdom to know when, where and how; faith in God; and the boldness to do God’s will even in the face of adversity.
THE BLOSSOMS were not to be left out as they marched just as proudly as their older counterparts.
