The Sandy Lane Gold Cup, the most prestigious horse race in the southern Caribbean, runs off at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday. In the lead-up to the big race, horse racing writer Lindon Yarde begins a series of profiles on the horses.

Owners: Bills Inc.

Trainer: Victor Cheeseman

Distance attempts: 4

Won: 4

Best Time: 1:52

Weight: 126 pounds.

Brave Star is one of three creoles entered by Cheeseman, and will be the outside shot for him. He attempts to join Incitatus as the lone four-year old creole to win the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup. He is unbeaten at the distance but has never faced imported equines before.

The progeny of John Brian out of Strong Opinion has two stakes victories. The first was in the Midsummer Creole Classic, where he was the beneficiary of a race course steward’s upgrade having trailed home stablemate Gandalf. (LY)
