‘Don’t fear Caricom nationals’

Barbadians should not fear CARICOM nationals flooding the island to live and work following the passing of the Caribbean Community (Amendment) Act 2019.

Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM David Comissiong yesterday sought to allay concerns expressed that the legislation passed in the House of Assembly late last Friday night would attract droves of CARICOM nationals and their dependants to the island, robbing Barbadians of available job opportunities and putting a strain on already burdened economic and social resources.

A message making the rounds on social media inflamed the passions of some Barbadians.

During a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, Comissiong rejected what he termed “propaganda”. (GC)
