The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) has designated Thursday, March 14, as National Earthquake Preparedness Day.

Members of the public are encouraged to conduct the “Drop, Cover and Hold On” earthquake drill within their homes, schools, businesses or communities at 10:00 a.m. on the day.

This national drill forms part of the activities to mark Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month, being celebrated under the theme: Safety and Security of the Blue Economy.

The drill is designed to increase seismic awareness in communities, and to test the procedures individuals use when responding to an earthquake.

Participants are encouraged to upload photos or videos of their school, business or community practising their respective earthquake response procedure to social media, and tagging the DEM at [email protected]. (BGIS)
