The Yello International Bashment Soca competition is moving to the beach and it’s not taking the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch semi-finals with it.
This means there is no more Phenomenal Friday event.
This and many other changes were announced at the competition launch on Wednesday night at Regne Night Club in Warrens.
The International Bashment Soca ambassador Shayne “DJ Ras” Edwards confirmed that the event would be held on Saturday July 6, and will move to Pirate’s Cove. It will now be held under the name Yello International Bashment Soca competition and Beach Party.
“There will be no other competitions on that night. It’s now on the beach so you can change your dress code and we will party even more, DJ Ras said.
There’s also been a change to the prize money.
This year’s winner will receive $60 000 and additional prizes. However, that’s $20 000 less than last year’s cash prize of $80 000.
For the first time, there will be a second and third place winner.
Second place will receive $15 000 and other prizes while third place will receive $5000 plus prizes.
Everyone that enters the competition will receive a performance fee.
The total prizes for this year will amount to $120 000.
DJ Ras also revealed that the artistes are allowed to get creative this year and can add fusions to their songs.
“Artistes you can now submit your songs that have a fusion. But it has to be 50/50. You can have 50 per cent bashment and 50 per cent of any other genre of your choice. You’re not limited to anything. And you can submit any song written and produced on or after January 1, 2018 so you have a wider window,” DJ Ras explained. Registration opens on April 1 and will close on Friday May 30.
International Soca Monarch Mr Killa will headline the beach party which will feature other top artistes and deejays. (DB)
