The St Michael Cougars and Harrison College may have had to leap quite a number of hurdles during this season’s Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championships but the determination to overcome those obstacles was exactly what led them to the mountaintop.

When the curtain came down on the championship at the National Stadium, former double-crown champions St Michael were at the forefront of the girls competition with 345 points while Harrison College claimed the boys with 254 points after a nine-year drought.

Head coach of the St Michael School, Gabriel Burnett, said he was so pleased with the finish of both his boys [who placed third with 190.50] and girls that he didn’t know which achievement outweighed the other.

Harrison College coach Ryan Leacock simply said despite the disappointments they were tough through it all. (RG)
