Staff cuts stall child money

Share post:

IT IS ALMOST THE END OF MARCH and a mother is crying out that she hasn’t received a cent in child maintenance from the court for the year.

However, the Registrar of the Supreme Court says the retrenchment programme is to blame for the lack of staff to deal with the disbursement of such monies.

The mother, who only spoke on condition of anonymity, told the NATION Monday night that the funds would be deducted from the salary of her daughter’s father and sent to St Matthias Magistrates’ Court around the 20th or 21st of each month.

“I would normally get a cheque, because you don’t collect the money anymore; they send cheques out to you. They mail out money twice a month – the middle and end of the month. Most of the time I get the money at the beginning of the next month. I have not received any money at all for the year – January, February, and I still waiting for March,” she lamented.
