Several local contractors have joined forces to lobby the Government to have the Sandals Beaches Resort project started.

About 35 companies in construction, plumbing and electrical services were expecting work when the third Sandals hotel got under way in St Peter, but are fearful that the international chain may take its US$400 million project elsewhere because of the delay – impacting them and the country. They want an urgent meeting with Government.

During the Budget last month Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mia Mottley revealed that the largest investment ever by the hotel could either be “stalled or pulled” following a breakdown in negotiations over concessions sought by the Jamaican brand. (MB)
