The 51-year-old Barbados Dance Theatre Centre was gutted by an early morning fire yesterday but management says arrangements will be made for classes to continue soon.

The principal of the Bishop’s Court Hill, St Michael, dance school, Deborah Taitt-Cumberbatch, told the NATION she received a call about 6:30 a.m. informing her about the blaze.

“I came down here immediately and have been talking to the police and the fire service people. I’ve also been talking to the parents as they come up because today is a day we have classes all day,” she said.

The insured building was gutted but Taitt-Cumberbatch said the organisation would be back bigger and better.

“We already have offers to hold and continue dance classes, so we’re going to resume classes soon,” she said.

The committee of management of the theatre said that it is a “very emotional time for members and students of the Barbados Dance Theatre Centre which only a year ago celebrated its 50th anniversary as a leading dance centre and company”.  (RA/PR)
