The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) is in no way putting the elderly or disabled at a disadvantage.
That assurance has come from chairman of the National Insurance Board, Ian Gooding-Edghill, as he sought to defend the NIS’ actions regarding people eligible for invalidity benefits.
Rumours were rampant on social media that the NIS’ invalidity benefits would be turned into a pension, and those on invalidity who were also getting a pension, would no longer be paid both.
Gooding-Edghill, however, rubbished these.
“The National Insurance Scheme has not altered any benefits within its benefits portfolio to any insured persons. We’ve not considered it, never discussed it. Consistent with Government’s position, everything must be put out there in the interest of transparency,” Gooding-Edghill, the Member of Parliament for St Michael West Central, said on Wednesday on Starcom Network’s Down To Brass Tacks.
