The Barbados Association of Netball Umpires (BANU) has declared that there is no stand-off between its officials and the Barbados Netball Association (BNA).
Responding to an article headlined Netball Confusion, which appeared in Wednesday’s MIDWEEK Nation, president of BANU, Carmeta Doughlin, said BANU had never instructed umpires to withhold their services from officiating in the inaugural Under-21 Tournament launched by the BNA last Sunday.
“We had received correspondence from the BNA indicating that they would be fixturing umpires for the tournament and we responded that BANU were responsible for assigning umpires and suggested that we wanted two persons from our fixturing committee to sit with the tournament organisers to help with the assigning of umpires.
“We are all for the development of our young netballers, but the BNA indicated that they would be using a draft system to assign umpires on evenings, and we wished them the best,” said Doughlin. (KB)
