THERE WAS NO BAIL for Anthony Randolph Thorpe yesterday.
Thorpe, 62, of Derricks, St James, admitted in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court to stealing two bottles of Baileys from People’s Mart on May 14, as well as a bottle of whisky, from the same establishment, on May 10.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant remanded him to HMP Dodds until June 12 when the many-time convicted thief will reappear for sentencing.
The manager of the mart was standing at the exit when he saw Thorpe pass the cashiers and heard the sound of bottles in a bag he was carrying.
He challenged Thorpe, who pushed him away and darted back into the store where he was subsequently held. Two bottles of Baileys were later found hidden among boxes of popcorn.
The manager later reviewed the footage from the closed-circuit televisions and realised Thorpe was the same man who had stolen a bottle of whisky last Friday. When Thorpe was interviewed by police, he confessed that if he had escaped, he would have sold the drinks before he appeared in the court on Tuesday. He further said he had drunk the bottle of whisky by himself.
