In 2012, Rashida Daisley was the heaviest she ever was, weighing 230 pounds.

It was then that the medical doctor decided to make a complete change in her life and take her health more seriously.

“In 2013 I made a decision to change my life and I dropped about 80 pounds. I started to build back some muscle though. When people see me they don’t believe it but all of what I try to preach to people is something I went through on my own,” she recalled.

Rashida said it was on her own personal journey to getting healthy that she took a keen interest in obesity research.

“My personal journey definitely helped to fuel my passion for obesity research and medicine. I realised how hard it was to make these changes. People would message me for tips about how to lose weight and I would give them tips and guidance. That’s why I really wanted to get into obesity medicine so I could really help people to institute this change in their life,” she said.

Rashida said that while working as a doctor at the Sparman Clinic she came into contact with many people who were struggling with non-communicable diseases which further cemented the idea to pursue further studies in public health. (DB)
