Juan Abraham Ramirez Rijo is breathing a sigh of relief today because he is going home to the Dominican Republic.

Immigration officials are also sighing with relief because he is leaving.

“We are very relieved,” Immigration officer Terry Simmons told the District “A” Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, as he thanked those who had helped with the repatriation of the Dominican.

“It was a long and difficult process and one I would never like to encounter again.”

Rijo, 35, a construction worker, of Calle Sanchez, Casa 112, San Pedro, Santo Domingo, was on remand at HMP Dodds, after he pleaded guilty to damaging an external door, two door locks and hardware, a washroom door frame and a dry wall, belonging to Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. (GAIA) on March 30. He spent five months in custody, the first three in a detention facility at the Immigration Department at the airport. (HLE)
