Windies make statement against New Zealand in final warm-up

Shai Hope scored a century to continue his stunning form ahead of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, as the West Indies posted their highest ever ODI total to defeat New Zealand by 91 runs in the final warm up match at Bristol.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, the Black Caps restricted West Indies to 421 in 49.2 overs. Left-handed swing bowler Trent Boult did the damage with figures of four for 50.

Hope top scored for the Windies with 101, while opener Evin Lewis (50) and all-rounder Andre Russell (54) added half centuries. Skipper Jason Holder fell just short, scoring 47 before he was caught at short third man by Ross Taylor off the bowling of Matt Henry.

In reply, New Zealand were 330 all out in 47.2 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Tom Blundell carved out a fine century, scoring 106, while captain Kane Williamson gave support with 86. Carlos Brathwaite snatched three wickets for 75 runs.

The West Indies will play Pakistan against Cardiff on Friday in their first official match of the tournament.
