THE BARBADOS ASSOCIATION OF MASQUERADERS (BAM) and Minister of Culture John King don’t seem to be fully on the same Crop Over page.
At a hastily called press conference at the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) around 3:30 p.m. yesterday, King announced that it would be a good season for cultural practitioners, who include bandleaders and promoters. They would finally receive 100 per cent duty-free concessions on items like beads and feathers, culinary items, art and craft, and sound equipment.
But Chetwin Stewart, president of BAM, said less than two hours later that while they had previous discussions with the minister, and welcomed the concessions, they still had pressing issues to be resolved. (NS)
