Players hit by club split

A MAJOR SHAKE-UP of club directors has cost four Barbadian footballers their professional contracts.

NATION SPORTĀ investigations have revealed that less than two months after signing two-year deals with Finland club Kemi City FC, national captain Rashad Jules, Paradise midfielders Ackeel Applewhaite and Jomo Harris, and Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) central defender Shane Codrington have all been terminated with immediate effect.

As a result, Jules, Applewhaite and Codrington arrived back in Barbados yesterday from Finland, but Harris has travelled to New York.

The players are not permitted to comment on the development as they are reportedly constrained by non-disclosure agreements.

In spite of speculation, it is understood that the players’ hand are clean.

ā€œThe players are not a fault in this situation. It has nothing to do with the Bajan players,ā€ a source said.

It’s now the unfortunate end to the dream of playing at the highest level for the players, who left the island on April 13 to participate in a one-week trial and performed so well they were offered deals and announced to fans on the club’s officialĀ InstagramĀ page by then chairman Mark Tivey.
