As the country reels from three fatal shootings in the past week and 29 murders for the year, president of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Verla De Peiza, is charging that Attorney General Dale Marshall has failed the country and must go.

She said that under his watch, there have been 43 murders, 14 for part of last year and 29 this year, and he had brought back a former commissioner of police, over whom a cloud of controversy remained, as a consultant.

“[He] touted him as having the answers to ‘wrest this problem to the ground’. The gun amnesty [in April, which netted 32 guns] has been a complete failure and soldiers on the streets will not work. The DLP now begs the Prime Minister to relieve the Attorney General of his duties and to terminate the contract of [former commissioner] Mr Darwin Dottin. (AC)
