Bajan swimmers reap gold

Barbados secured four gold medals tonight in the pool at the 2019 Central American and Caribbean Championships (CCCAN).

Olympian Alex Sobers led the charge, as he touched the wall in 3:59.74 seconds to win the mens 400 metre freestyle. Antigua’s Noah Mascoll-Gomes took the silver (4:06.58) and Axxel Salgado Salinas of Mexico secured the bronze medal (4:06.94).

The island’s top junior female swimmer Danielle Titus also produced a golden moment in the girls 15-17, 200 metre backstroke (2:19.38) edging out her fellow Bajan Danielle Treasure who took the silver (2:21.54).

Tristan Pragnell’s time of 2:09.76 was also enough to give him gold in the boys 15-17 200 metre backstroke.

Forty-year-old Nicky Neckles won Barbados’ fourth gold in the 18 and over 200 metre backstroke (2:09.08), while Luis Sebastian Weekes took bronze in the mens 18 and over 100 metre breaststroke.

Barbados also snatched a silver medal in the girls 15-17, 4×100 metre medley relay and bronze in the men’s 18 and over, 4×100 metre relay.
