Barbados ended the 2019 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletics Championships in Queretaro, Mexico with one gold, four silver and one bronze medal.
Yesterday, the team added three more silvers to the opening day’s tally one of each kind at the combined championships. All were in the Under-18 division.
A time of 21.18 seconds was good enough to win Darian Clarke his second sprint silver medal. Following on from the Under-18 boys’ 100, Clarke just got to the line ahead of Mexico’s Gerardo Lomeli, who was third in 21.19. Rajay Morris of Jamaica won in 20.82.  Â
Mario Burke would no doubt have been fancying his chances of winning a second medal in the men’s race, but he false started and gold went to Samson Colebrooke of The Bahamas in 20.58 seconds. 
Barbados’ second field events medal came from Nathan Crawford-Wallace’s first hop, skip and jump of 14.45 metres in the Under-18 boys’ triple jump. He was overtaken by eventual winner Jordan Turner of Jamaica (14.52) in the next round, but Crawford-Wallace was lucky to get silver with three successive fouls, a pass and a foul on the final attempt.
Earlier, Kyle Gale finished second in the 400 metres in 47.34 seconds behind Mexico’s Luis Aviles who clocked 46.36. The bronze went to Deandre Watkins of the United States in 47.63 and Barbadian Miguel Nicholas was fifth in 48.32.
In the hurdles, Adeyah Brewster finished fourth (13.75 seconds) and Sarah Belle sixth (13.99) in the Under-18 girls’ 100m hurdles which were won by American Crystal Morrison in 13.19 seconds.
Ayanna Morgan was also sixth in the Under-23 division with a time of 13.71 seconds as Americans Tonea Marshall (12.57) and Chanel Brissett (12.73), both dipped under 13 seconds.
Michael Nicholls was fourth in the men’s 110 metres event after clocking 13.59 as Jamaica’s Lemonious Phillip sped to gold in wind-aided (2.7) time of 13.47 seconds.
Aria Small’s best leap of 12.85 metres was good for sixth in the women’s triple jump, which was won by Cuba’s Davisleydis Velazco with 13.94m.
On the opening day, Shanice Hutson won gold in the Under-18 girls’ discus with 42.02m and Burke bronze in the 100 metres in 10.01 seconds. (SAT)
