Yet another situation is brewing at the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW).

Five days after the trade union announced the retirement of general secretary Roslyn Smith, she is contending that she was wrongfully dismissed and is seeking $490 613.83 in compensation.

And to add to the intrigue, Smith has enlisted the services of a rival trade union to fight on her behalf.

Smith’s case was outlined in a letter dated July 15, signed by Senator Caswell Franklyn, the general secretary of the Unity Workers Union, and addressed to the Chief Labour Officer. It was delivered to his office that day. (SP)
