Defending champions Christ Church Foundation and Queen’s College secured first innings honours when the semi-finals of the Barbados Cricket Association Under-15 Championship started yesterday.
At Weymouth, Zone C winners Queen’s College dismissed The Lodge School, who won the toss and batted, for a meagre 77, with off-spinner Macaiah Simmons grabbing five for 19 in nine overs, including five maidens.
Lodge got off to a shaky start, sliding to 36-3, but Rodney Greenidge’s fighting 20 helped to rebuild the innings. Xaundre Baptiste took two wickets for six runs, while Joshua Alkins scored 20 and was the joint top-scorer.
In reply, Queen’s College reached 104 for three at the close after a 50-run opening partnership, compliments Ajani Small and Simmons.
In the second semi-final at Briar Hall, Zone A winners Foundation routed Coleridge & Parry for 74 before replying with 107 for seven.
CP’s openers Javado Holder-Moffie and Kyron King scored 13 and 17, respectively.
However, both were dismissed by left-arm spinner Nathan Sealy, who improved on his 40-wicket tally by capturing four for 23 in 18 overs.
Leg-spinner Isaiah Folkes was the most successful, bagging five wickets for 13 runs in 9.3 overs, including the key wicket of the tournament’s leading run-scorer Joshua Morris for six. (NU)
