The husband and wife team of Sanka and Sonia Price took the top award at this year’s Junior Kadooment in association with Consolidated Finance, held earlier today at the historic Kensington Oval.
The Prices copped the Robert Weekes Award for Best Festival Designer for their presentation entitled Celebrating the Arts – Barbados future through the Orange Economy.
It is the third year they have paraded under Blackbird Productions, and an elated Sanka said he was proud of his partner.
“I am very happy for my wife; she has worked hard. Over the last decade she has been working in the schools and would have delivered a number of Best School Bands so I am really grateful now her work has been finally recognised at this level. I am very happy for my wife,” Sanka said.
The band had about 160 revellers in four sections and focused on the orange economy.
“This is the creative economy and showing how it could be the future lifeblood for Barbados because we are talking musical arts, we are talking creative arts, literary arts, visual arts,” he explained.
The Prices also won the Tropical section and were second in the Historical behind Springer Memorial School’s Goodly Heritage, presented by designers Alicia Moore and Patricia Bourne-Nurse.
