He’s been on the Crop Over scene for four decades and is the island’s winningnest entertainer, having won the Pic-O-De-Crop title ten times.
He has also bagged two Sweet Soca titles.
Recently, he was appointed Cultural Ambassador of Barbados and very soon Stedson Red Plastic Bag (RPB) Wiltshire will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
“I want to thank the university and the people of the Caribbean for seeing my work as worthy of such an honour and I want to thank all those who supported me over the years. It’s because of them that I keep going.”
“I felt humbled by the feeling of my work being recognised in this manner. When I first started, it was just me being there to make up a number singing calypso in St Philip. I went on to a national level and even at that point, I never saw myself reaching that far in terms of making a calypso career and to see it being recognised in this way is really a great feeling,” RPB said.
Reflecting on his career, RPB told EASY he has had an excellent time and wouldn’t change anything about it. (DB)
