UPDATE: Kadooment Day tragedy

Grand Kadooment Day started on a tragic note when the body of a young woman was found along Hastings Beach, Christ Church, yesterday morning.

Police report receiving a telephone call around 6:55 a.m. informing them of the body of a young female seen near the water’s edge. The body was subsequently pulled onto the sand.

Upon responding and speaking to some friends who had gathered, the police determined it was a 27-year-old Guyanese national who was staying nearby in St Matthias. The death is being treated as unnatural.

The woman was wearing a white sleeveless shirt and dark blue shorts. Her body was close to the path to the beach nearly opposite St Matthias Road, behind the guest houses next to Soco Hotel.

The body was removed around 10:15 a.m. by personnel from Two Sons Funeral Home. One of the onlookers at the scene was identified as the deceased’s boyfriend. However, he said he was unable to speak at that time.

Up to press time police had not released the name of the deceased.
