Some overseas visitors have been leaving Barbados’ sweetest summer festival with a bitter taste in their mouths.
So disappointed are the nearly 15 would-be Grand Kadooment revellers, mostly non-nationals – some of whom paid nearly $2 000 for their costumes – that they have reported the matter to the Office of the Public Counsel over the last three years to get their money back.
In connection with the just concluded 2019 Crop Over Festival, two female non-nationals have made reports of being cheated by unscrupulous bandleaders who they said provided neither of them with a costume or part of the package they paid for online.
“I suspect there are more people who are affected,” said Paul Leach, investigations officer with the Office of the Public Counsel, located at the Warrens Office Complex, St Michael. But he reasoned that he was not getting more complaints as those people may be unaware of the services his office offers even to those who reside overseas. (SP)
