A large tree fell near the monument on the northeastern side of the Garrison Savannah, leaving people and businesses in the immediate vicinity without electricity for about an hour.

Horseracing aficionado Mohommed Mohamad told Nation News the tree fell around 8 a.m. by the side of the Barbados Museum and brought down a pole, power lines and a transformer.

He said the road was impassable at the time, but the Barbados Light & Power quickly responded to the incident and worked “exceptionally well as usual”.

They placed cones and blocked the road, removed the downed lines and worked on clearing the way.

The power returned around 9 a.m., but Mohamad said the area near the back entrance of the nearby Graydon Sealy Secondary School was still impassable.  (SAT)
