THE BARBADOS DEFENCE FORCE (BDF) wants to attract more recruits and retain more of its members.

That is the hope of Chief of Staff Colonel Glyne Grannum, who said that in 2019, the BDF was still operating below the number of soldiers needed, as people continued to leave the army every year.

“I won’t go into specific figures because of operational reasons, but we have an establishment ceiling from Government and we are below that, so we have some opportunities and vacancies for people to enlist,” Grannum said.

He was speaking at St Matthias Anglican Church in Hastings, Christ Church, yesterday after a 30th anniversary celebration service for the 1989 recruit intake. (TG)
