Head coach of the Barbados senior football team Russell Latapy has lauded his players for a dominant performance against Saint Martin in their opening game of the Concacaf Nations League.

The Tridents easily brushed aside their Caribbean visitors 4-0 at home on Thursday night at the Wildey Turf. It was a convincing victory, with local fans leaving the ground extremely satisfied with the level of football on display.

Speaking during a post-match press conference, Latapy, a former midfield maestro told reporters the team achieved its main goal which was a positive result in front of the home faithful.

“I’m always happy with winning football games, that’s why we are here. I thought the boys worked really hard especially in the second part of the game. We started back brightly and we controlled that part of the game. I want us to be more prolific and efficient. We need to get a little better. I’m happy that we played at home in front of our fans and were able to score four goals and get a clean sheet. that’s the aspect of the game I’m happy with,” Latapy said.

The 51-year-old Trinidadian coach said his side is not yet the finished product but showed positive signs especially in the backline.

“There is still a lot of work to be done. There are a lot of things to correct but in general the objective was to get three points and we were able to get it.
