Earlier today, the Barbados Meteorological Services released a statement on newly formed Tropical Depression No.10.

While the system is not forecast to directly affect the island, Barbadians are being advised to monitor its progression.

At 11 a.m. today, Tropical Depression No.10 was located near 12.9N, 44.5W, about 1165 miles (1870 km) east of Barbados.

It was moving towards the west-northwest near 12mph (19km/h) with estimated minimum central pressure of 1007 mb (29.74 inches).

Maximum sustained winds were near 35mph, (55km/h) with higher gusts.

The system is expected to become a tropical storm later today and further strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.

On the present track, no direct impacts from the system are expected in Barbados, as it forecast to pass to the north of the northern Leeward Islands by Thursday night into early Friday.

However, residents in Barbados and the Lesser Antilles should continue to closely monitor the progress of this system. (PR)
