Lashley: Politics in cricket

Fired white ball captains Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite are victims of political insularity.

So says former Cabinet Minister Hamilton Lashley, who has accused the Ricky Skerritt led Cricket West Indies (CWI) administration of “making an assault on the scalps of Barbadian leaders in cricket”.

Lashley told Weekend Sport that Holder and Brathwaite were casualties of the last CWI elections in March when Skerritt rose to the presidency without the backing of Barbados.

Lashley acknowledged that the cricketing stats for Holder and Brathwaite were modest. Holder, 27, led the One-Day International team in 86 matches from 2015, without a series win. He won just 24 matches and lost 54 while there were two tied matches and six no-results.

The 31-year-old Brathwaite took over the T20 team in 2016, and has had modest success in 30 matches, winning 11 and losing 17 with two no-results.
