Tridents ‘not dead’

Barbados Tridents is no weak team. It just hasn’t played up to potential. So says head coach Phil Simmons inspite of the team’s dismal performances at the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League which has resulted in four defeats in six matches.

“When we looked at the draft, we selected what we thought was the strongest team. We have had some players that are injured. We have had players we have had to change because of national duty, so it would not be correct to say the team is weak,” said Simmons at a press briefing yesterday morning at Hilton Barbados, on the eve of tonight’s showdown with Trinbago Knight Riders at Kensington Oval.

“We selected as good a team as we could have selected at the time. This is a T20 competition and had we played properly, had we batted properly, we would be up there with Trinidad and Guyana,” he added.

Only three Tridents players – Leniko Boucher, Johnson Charles and Justin Greaves – have scored half-centuries so far while front-runners Guyana Amazon Warriors and TKR, each have six players with half-centuries. (MK)
