BARBADOS TRIDENTS’ quest for a place in the Hero Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 final was put on hold yesterday at Providence Stadium in Guyana after their bowlers felt the wrath of Brandon King’s blazing bat.
King hit the highest score in the competition to date to power the unbeaten Guyana Amazon Warriors into Saturday’s final with a 30-run victory, the 11th on the trot.
The right-handed stroke-maker from Jamaica smashed 11 sixes and ten fours in a blistering record 132 not out off 72 balls as the Amazon Warriors amassed an imposing 218 for three in their 20 overs.
In reply, the Tridents made a gallant attempt to score at the required rate of 10.9 runs per over but were restricted to 188 for eight. Left-hander Jonathan Carter topscored with a breezy 49, which contained five fours and three sixes off 26 balls.
They will have a second chance to reach the final when they oppose three-time kings Trinbago Knight Riders at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Thursday night.
The consistent King, after a relatively quiet start as the Amazon Warriors reached 48 without loss in the Power Play, pushed his tally of runs to a tournament-high 453. His knock also surpassed Andre Russell’s previous highest score of 121 not out. (EZS)
