Babb: 2020 could be our year

Next year’s summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, could be a standout year for Barbados in track and field as long as the athletes remain in good shape.

That’s the view of coach Alwyn Babb, who led the six-member contingent to the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

“I believe based on what we have seen in the last two years and even this year, 2020 could be a stellar year for athletics in Barbados once everyone remains healthy. If that is so, we could see a good track and field team heading to the Olympics,” he told THE NATION.

The September 27 to October 6 Championships saw Pan American Games 110 metres hurdles gold medallist Shane Brathwaite advancing to the final of the event and finishing sixth in 13.61 seconds, while Sada Williams reached the semi-finals of the women’s 400 metres, where she achieved a personal best of 51.31 seconds.
