Tridents not counting chickens

The Barbados Tridents won’t be underestimating 201st-ranked minnows United States Virgin Islands in tonight’s Concacaf Nations League C football international at the Wildey Turf.

With Tridents smarting from a 3-2 away loss to lightweights Cayman Islands in their last match, head coach Russell “The Magician” Latapy was understandably cautious about predicting the outcome of the 8 p.m. encounter.

“We treat everybody with respect. The same way we look at some of the bigger teams in the region . . . I expect the same from the USVI,” Latapy said during Thursday’s pre-game press conference at the Barbados Football Association’s headquarters.

USVI lost 0-2 at home to the Cayman Islands but edged St Martin 2-1 in The Valley, Anguilla, while Barbados thrashed whipping boys St Martin’s 4-0 in their last home match. (EZS)
