PORT OF SPAIN – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has described as a fake, a video circulating on social media and purporting to show a shootout between criminals and law enforcement officers.
“The event captured did not occur in Trinidad and Tobago. The video originated in Puerto Rico,” the police said in a statement as it urged the population “to be cautious of false information sent via social media which can cause unnecessary panic and anxiety”.
Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has said he is concerned at “the numerous deliberate attempts by some persons to create panic and anxiety by purposefully spreading false information across social media platforms”.
The statement urged citizens from “forwarding or sharing unverified and inaccurate content from dubious sources on social media”. (CMC)
