De Peiza ‘alarmed’ by QEH appointment

Democratic Labour Party (DLP) president Verla De Peiza says she is alarmed by the recent appointment of an executive chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), deeming the process undemocratic.

She said that putting Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland into the “as yet unfounded position of executive chair” was not just an issue of nepotism and optics, as she was the wife of a minister of Government, but went to the heart of the process.

“This has more to do with the circumstances of the purported appointment. To date, no such position exists. Her ‘appointment’ was announced on the floor of the House [of Assembly] at the very same time that the amendment to the legislation to make it legal was being debated.
