In the future, senior athletes will not be waiting to see if they get financial support from Government for their overseas competitions.

This is the word from coordinator of the National Senior Games, Rawle Clarke, following Barbados’ capture of 41 medals recently at the 33rd Huntsman Senior Games in Utah, United States.

“What we are going to do is start from January and try to set up some fundraising activities, and anything [financial assistance] that comes after that we will accept. That is what we will be doing from next year,” Clarke told NATION SPORT.

Following last year’s General Election, newly-elected Minister of Elder Affairs Cynthia Forde said that Government was unable to finance a team at the annual games in the United States, given the economic state of the country at that time.  (RG)
