Queen’s College scored a thrilling upset yesterday over The St Michael School (SMS) 21-20 when the Barbados Secondary Schools Netball League entered the second stage at the Netball Stadium.

It was a nail-biter, with both teams giving away precious little. The versatile Tower Lorde and Kelissa Kelly shot well for SMS, who were backed up at the other end of the court by some tight defence from Tenielle Chapman-Goodluck, but Queen’s College were able to squeeze out the win with some fine all-round play along with pin-point shooting from Janine Forde and Liana Leacock.

Defending champions Christ Church Foundation, who like SMS had played unbeaten in their zone matches, found little opposition from The Lodge School, romping to a 45-15 win. Dessani Waithe knocked down 19 goals before taking a sit down for six-footer Damia Walrond to add 18, with a contribution of eight from Chiara Chase.

In other games, Springer Memorial defeated Lester Vaughan Secondary 27-17 while Harrison College beat Graydon Sealy 25-11. (KB)
