We are back!

With those words Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, signalled his country is now truly on its way back to normalcy.

And the Prime Minister thanked two Barbadians – businessmen Calvin Alkins and Mark Maloney – for quickly lending a helping hand after Dominica was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Maria in September 2017, to help the Nature Isle back on its feet.

Speaking during a national consultation attended by Dominicans working and studying in Barbados on Thursday night, Skerrit said the northern Caribbean island would now focus on becoming the first fully climate-resilient island-state in the region.

He then revealed Alkins had been appointed as Barbados’ honorary consul to Dominica.

Alkins had provided his own money and resources to provide food and supplies to Dominica, even though the country had no discernible income after 90 per cent of its housing stock and numerous government buildings had been destroyed. (BA)
