HomeTOWN knowledge and a strong First Form group of runners proved decisive for hosts Christ Church Foundation School as they shared the honours with arch-rivals, The St Michael School, when the Southern Zone of the secondary schools’ cross country event was held yesterday at the Church Hill circuit.

Foundation captured the boys’ title with 198 points, well ahead of The Lodge School’s 265 and Combermere School had 269.

SMS Cougars sprinted away with the girls’ title with 161 points, as CCFS Beacons placed second on 174 and Combermere earned their second third spot with 194.

Foundation’s Beacons captured both the boys’ and girls’ First Form titles, putting to bed the threat of the Golden Apples Tia and Tania Applewhaite turning out for their first engagement for Combermere.

Second place in the First Form girls was shared between SMS and The Lodge School, with Combermere placing third. (KB)
