Children calling helpline too

Share post:

Children are calling the Faith Marshall-Harris Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Helpline to ask mostly about abuse.

Faith Marshall-Harris, UNICEF’s Barbados Champion for Children and founder of the helpline, said that while the helpline received all types of calls, many were “mainly . . . for help with real issues, mostly abuse”.

“For the children, it is often when they have a sense of not being understood . . .  they’re being disciplined too much or they’re being prevented from doing whatever. These are mainly children over a certain age.

“The helpline grew out of the idea that you want to give children an opportunity, a voice.” (SP)
